History
Founded on April 1, 1966, Donald R. Pullen started Pullen A.C. Service out of his New Orleans home on Iberville Street. After many years in the HVAC industry, he realized an opportunity for a change in the market. Back then, air conditioning units were commonly sold with only a one year customer warranty. Generally, no businesses wanted to do the service work; by and large, no one could make a living only doing service work. So, Donald took the chance to fill that gap.
With a start up network of referrals and a brand new Chevy truck, Pullen A.C. Service was formed. He charged $7 an hour for service calls and had an answering service relaying his messages. He found his new business to be a success and was able to hire his first employee…. his wife.
Operating out of his new home in Metairie, Donald’s wife Joanne began working for him shortly after their son Eric was born. Joanne was the company’s primary receptionist and secretary until 1970 when they enlisted the help of an answering machine. The first of its kind, Donald paid $800 for this new invention. Years later, he paid $1100 for his first cell phone (which he carried around in a suitcase).
After nearly 30 years in the industry, Donald was ready to hang up his gauges. Donald was ready to retire. But unbeknownst to him, his son Eric had other plans for Pullen Air Conditioning. Per Donald’s insistence, for the next 7 years, Eric went to school and worked for his Dad. Even wtih long hours at school, and tough jobs assigned by his father, Eric was determined to continue the family business.
Now, 15 years later, and after 44 years of continued service to Southeastern Louisiana, Pullen Air Conditioning Inc. is recognized as a trusted leader in the HVAC Industry.
